Robotics


Robotics is defined as a branch of engineering which involves the designing, manufacture and application of robots.

This field requires a fair amount of knowledge with electronics, artificial intelligence, computer science, mechatronics, nanotechnology and bioengineering. The three laws of robotics have been adhered to till date. These 3 laws are: Robots are never supposed to harm human beings, Robots are always supposed to follow human instructions, without defying the first rule and Robots must always protect themselves while adhering to the aforementioned rules. Today, the field robotics has experienced amazing advances and its useful application can be found in various factories to perform jobs that require high precision like riveting and welding. Robot control involves three essential phases: perception, processing and action. Information about the immediate environment or the robot itself is received by the sensors. This information is then processed to calculate the appropriate signals to the motors which moves the robot. Robot control involves various aspects like path recognition and planning, pattern recognition, obstacle avoidance and much more.

Use of Robotics

Robotics finds its application various fields particularly the industrial sector. With its appropriate and correct implementation, robots can significantly enhance productivity as well as free workers from performing arduous or dangerous tasks like diffusing bombs or cleaning toxic wastes. Besides experiencing increased productivity, the filed of robotics has significantly improved management control within industries and factories or workstations and also helps in creating or producing high quality products consistently. Resultantly, the costs of manufactured goods is significantly reduced which greatly influences the world market in terms of an economic advantage. Further as compared to human resources, robots are quicker, cheaper to maintain, easy to train, easier to refuel and produce quality work especially that required high precision control. Even the healthcare industry has recognized the benefits of robotics. The chronically ill or elderly people can be helped by robots in many ways. For example, robots can remind them about taking their medication, food and drink in time or perhaps for an important appointment. They can even collect important data and monitor patients or address emergencies like high sugar levels, heart attacks etc. Best of all, robots can assist in performing domestic chores.

Advantages of Robotics

The major advances in the field of robotics has not only been instrumental in simplifying domestic life, but has had a major influence on the industrial sector as well. Besides reducing labor cost and improving production time frames; application of robotics has significantly enhanced industrial productivity while delivering high quality finished products. Moreover, unlike humans robots are immune to poison and disease. They can be made to work for long hours as they are not required to sleep, drink or eat. Most of the robots are designed to be damage resistant and can also communicate secret information. These positive attributes make robots highly favorable in conditions or environments, where human activity or interaction is undesirable. This in turn results in offering ample flexibility and increased output.
